Destination Paradise: Tulum.

What’s Tulum like?

Tulum is quite hard to define. As a geographical place, it’s just the perfect combination of white sandy beach and lush wild jungle. As a human collective, Tulum is a highly diverse community of entrepreneurs, explorers, artists, chefs, musicians, and visionaries from all over the world.

Tulum owes its popularity to its very unique and unexpected “vibes.” Rustic but glamorous at the same time.  Down to earth but stylish and exclusive at once. We’ve heard many adjectives that try to describe it: bohemian, hippie-chic, or (possibly our favorite one) jungle-chic.

Where’s Tulum located and how do I get there?

Where’s Tulum located, and how do I get there?

Tulum, together with Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, is one of the most popular spots of Riviera Maya.

Situated on the Mexican Caribbean coastline, it’s located 118 km south of Cancun’s International Airport and before the Sian Ka’an Natural Reserve.

The best way to reach Tulum is by car, which will take one hour 30min from Cancun International Airport. Driving down Federal Highway 307, you will first encounter Tulum Town. Then, making a left towards the coast, you’ll arrive at Tulum's breathtaking beach.

When is the best time to visit Tulum?

The best time to visit Tulum, Mexico depends on your preferences and priorities. Here's a breakdown of the different seasons:

  1. High Season (December to April): This period is considered the peak season in Tulum due to its pleasant weather. The temperatures are warm, ranging from the mid-70s°F to mid-80s°F (mid-20s°C to low 30s°C), and the chances of rainfall are relatively low. However, keep in mind that this is the busiest time, and prices for accommodations and activities tend to be higher. It is advisable to book well in advance.

  2. Shoulder Season: The shoulder seasons offer a good balance between pleasant weather and fewer crowds. During May and June, temperatures remain warm, but the humidity starts to rise. November also experiences pleasant temperatures before the peak season begins. Prices for accommodations may be more affordable during these months, and you can still enjoy the beauty of Tulum without dealing with massive crowds.

  3. Low Season: This period coincides with the rainy season and higher temperatures. July and August are particularly hot and humid, with occasional showers. September and October are considered the wettest months, with an increased chance of hurricanes. However, prices for accommodations and flights tend to be lower during this time, making it an attractive option for budget travelers.

It's essential to consider your preferred weather conditions, crowd levels, and budget when deciding on the best time to visit Tulum.

What can I do in and around Tulum?

Adventure, Nature, Wellness, Art, and Music are only some of the aspects Tulum is renowned for.

Pack bikinis and sunblock. Arriving in Tulum, you’ll first want to head straight to the beach: its most vibrant and iconic site. Stroll down 10 km of white sand, and stop for a memorable lunch at one of Tulum’s many beach clubs. Sun, music, and good energy will recharge your batteries.

If you’re a nature lover, you can’t leave Tulum without seeing a Cenote. Snorkeling, diving, kite-surfing, and exploring the natural Biosphere are also must-dos for adventurers. You can’t miss Tulum Ruins, either. This ancient Mayan archeological site, together with Chichén Itzá and Coba, will teleport your mind to ancient times.

If, instead, you’re looking for mindfulness and relaxation, Tulum has it all. Yoga, meditation, sound healing, and ancient Mayan ceremonies will make your wellness journey unforgettable.

Art and nature go hand in hand in Tulum, and one is entirely inspired by the other. There are many art installations, some of which have gained world fame. One of them is “Ven a la Luz,” designed by Daniel Popper for the Art With Me festival, which symbolizes the human connection with nature. You can also visit the jungle Art Walk at Holistika, and Azulik's Sfer Ik, a contemporary art museum like no other.
