Tulum Essentials | Packing List
Finally! It’s time to pack for Tulum again and, this time, you promised yourself you will get it right and only pack the essentials. If you’re a Tulum lover and habitué like us, you’ve probably learned the lesson by now: no more heavy suitcases, no more bulky bags, and no more “I’ll bring this, just in case...”. Let’s be real. The only thing we’ll end up wearing in Tulum is our bikinis or swimsuits.
Nevertheless, we’ve learned from our experience that a few good essentials can become lifesavers, and make your trip to Tulum as easy as a walk in the… jungle.
Here is Jashita’s ultimate list of never-without items:
Reef-friendly Sunblock. We all know SPF is essential. But what many people don’t think about, is the health and protection of coral reefs, cenotes, and the ocean. The same sunscreen that protects your skin, in fact, can damage these ecosystems and your entire life underwater. That’s why we’re so picky when it comes to selecting our SPFs.
Natural Insect Repellent. No matter the season or the time of the day, when visiting Tulum, chances are you will find yourself struggling against mosquitos. We encourage you to always use a natural and DEET-free bug spray, to keep the environment free of harmful chemicals. Especially when adventuring in the beautiful nature of Riviera Maya, swimming in its crystal clear lagoons, and diving in its sacred Cenotes.
Refillable Water Bottle. In Tulum’s hot weather, hydration is the key! Always carry with you your own refillable water bottle, and ask restaurants and hotels to fill it up for you. It’s no secret. A lot of progress still has to be made in Tulum, in terms of sustainability and plastic recycling. Having access to this corner of tropical paradise and its lush nature is a real luxury and a big responsibility for all of us.
Aloe Vera Gel. Aloe is our remedy for everything! Whether you're sunburned, trying to heal from mosquito bites, or looking to boost your skin’s hydration, this plant is all you need. To truly benefit from its incredible properties, make sure you’re using products that are as natural and organic as possible. Just like at Spa Caoba, where the aloe we use for facials and after-sun treatments, is handpicked straight from our own garden.
Flip-Flops. We don’t even try anymore. All other types of shoes and fancy sandals would inevitably get ruined in the sand and gravel roads of Tulum. Besides, what we came here for is nature, and we plan to enjoy it to the fullest: the best kind of luxury for us is barefoot.
Yoga Attire. Whether you’re a passionate yogi or not, sooner or later, you will end up taking that yoga class in Tulum. Don’t forget to pack your favorite yoga pants and get active! We look forward to relaxing, being present, and letting stress roll away with you. Ask your concierge for the best yoga practices around Tulum, or even better, book your own private session at the villa.
